Köprülü Canyon National Park spans 366 square kilometres of limestone gorge and pine forest between Beşkonak and Bolasan, carved by the Köprüçay River over seven million years.
The canyon floor lies 400 metres below the plateau rim, and the dirt tracks that ribbon its northern slopes were cut in the 1980s by forestry crews accessing timber stands. Wild boar, red fox, and Anatolian ground squirrel inhabit the lower slopes, while golden eagles and griffon vultures nest on the canyon's western cliffs. The Köprüçay River maintains year-round flow from snowmelt and karst springs, supporting European otter and Balkan trout populations below the Oluk Bridge, a Roman-era stone arch that marks the midpoint of most buggy routes. Environmental guidelines restrict vehicle traffic to established tracks and prohibit off-trail riding to protect fragile understory plants and prevent erosion on slopes prone to landslides during winter rains.
